Homemade Ganesha idol

Inspired by tons of online influencers, this year I decided to try out my artistic skills and put it to best use. I thought what else could be a better choice other than starting with the auspicious Ganesha idol during the festive occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi! So I looked up for few images online that were little simple for a beginner, so that I could try and make one. Next I looked for what homemade ingredients could be used and in what ratios. I noticed that some made with rice flour alone, while some used a combination of rice flour and all purpose flour, and many others used rice flour with equal amount of turmeric powder. Finally, I decided upon the latter choice, so that I could get the idol made in the color imparted by turmeric. I kneaded the dough using 1 cup rice flour and 1/2 cup turmeric powder. Once I was done making the small parts and assembling them together, I used a toothpick to carve the designs. All said and done, in the end, I was quite happy to see my self-made ganesh idol.

Please Note: The homemade ingredients are good option, only if you plan to make and discard within 3 days or sooner. That’s because, I noticed that the idol was getting deformed by the end of the day. I realized the reason could probably be the loose binding of the flour, but I was unsure as it was my first experience. I decided that next year, I’m going to try my hand at making the same using clay, so that it can last longer! ๐Ÿ™‚
